The Feast of Pentecost

(Leviticus 23:15-17) "And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete: Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD. Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the LORD." These two loaves represent the gift of the Holy Spirit of God, offered to both Jews and Gentiles, through the sacred blood of the Passover Lamb of God.

These Holy Feast days were kept by Jesus and the early church and are still kept today by the followers of our Lord Jesus. Thankfully the early church did, otherwise they wouldn't have received the gift of the Holy Spirit on that very special Holy Day.

(Acts 2:1) "And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place."

(Acts 20:16) "For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost."
(1 Corinthians 16:8) "But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost."

The Feast of Pentecost, also known as Feast of Weeks, falls on the 50th day (Pentecost means fifty in Greek) after the Passover Sabbath. This feast is a reminder, a guarantee of Gods power, through Jesus ascending up into heaven, to produce spiritual fruit, by the giving of His Holy Spirit. The literal first fruits of the soil are merely the physical types or expressions of the spiritual first fruits of the Holy Spirit sent by the King of Kings, Jesus.

These first fruits of the Holy Spirit are the true believers, paid by the blood of Christ Jesus, the firstborn, to be presented without blemish to God the Father. (1 Corinthians 15:20-23) "But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming."

The Feast of Pentecost, in short, prefigures, guarantees and commemorates the early harvest, the first fruits of human souls: and those who celebrate it declare their willingness to be part of that spiritual body which will one day be presented to the Almighty by His Son Jesus - the Firstborn!
