How can I become perfect?(Matthew 5:48) "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." The first step to entering into life or becoming perfect, is usually when we mess up our lives to such a degree that we surrender to God on our knees, in repentance, and confess that we do not know what is right and what is wrong. (Jeremiah 10:23) "O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps." If we trust in God, than the word of God will teach us how to be perfect. The 10 commandments where given to man to show us how to live our life's, loving God and our fellow man. The first 4 of the Ten Commandments show us how to love God - Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.; and the last 6 commandments shows us how we should treat our fellow man - Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. (Proverbs 7:1-3) "My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye. Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart." There are 10 commandments for 10 fingers and 2 tables of commandments for 2 sections of our heart, the right side, where blood enters the heart and the left side, where blood exits the heart. Once a person repents of their sins, the only thing they need, is to believe and have faith in Christ Jesus. He forgives our sins and gives us a new mind and heart, or as Jesus says, is born again. (John 3:5) "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." Jesus is the one, and only one, who can give us the Holy Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit teaches us the truth of God. (John 14:26) "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." When we receive the Holy Spirit, whether before or after baptism, we are at that moment saved from eternal punishment through the sacred blood of Christ Jesus. All our sins are forgiven by the grace of God. Now Jesus commands us to follow him. (John 10:27) "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:" It is by the mighty power of God Almighty through following our Lord Jesus, the Son of God that makes the new man. (Luke 22:69) "Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God." (John 1:12-13) "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." (2 Samuel 22:32-33) "For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God? God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect." The Holy Spirit of God within us is that which works to do the will of God through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 2:13) "For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure." You and I can do nothing to obtain salvation or to please God the Father without our Lord Jesus. (John 15:5) "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." Being able to obey the commandments of God is that fruit which is produced. (Romans 7:12) "Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good." (Romans 8:4) "That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." If we can obey the commandments by the spirit of the law, it will product in us these following attributes: (Galatians 5:22-23) "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance:" Jesus is the word of God in the flesh. (John 1:14) "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." We are to trust in him and obey his commandments which are the commandments of God. (John 12:49) "For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak." We have to put our trust in the word of God. (Proverbs 30:5) "Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him." When we start to obey the ten commandments we receive wisdom and understanding. (Job 28:28) "And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding." We depart from evil by obeying the commandments of God. (Psalms 111:10) "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth forever." Before the sacrifice of Jesus, the Son of God, it was impossible to obey the law without the Holy Spirit and why we all are under sin. (Galatians 3:22) "But the Scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe." (Romans 7:14) "For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin." (Romans 8:7) "Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be." So you see, we can't make ourselves perfect, it is God that does the work. But by the grace of God, he gives us His Holy Spirit, so that we can obey the law in spirit and truth. (Jeremiah 31:33) "But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people." But the Holy Spirit does not force us to do the will of God, he only teaches, comforts and encourages us. The rest is up to us. (Galatians 5:25) "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." We who are Christians are to be under the influences of the Holy Spirit and not to be under the dominion of the flesh; not to be controlled by its appetites and desires. Let us then act in this manner, and as if we believed this. Let us yield ourselves to his influences, and show that we are controlled by that Spirit. (Ephesians 4:30) "And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption." (Psalms 19:7-11) "The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward." (Romans 7:24-25) "O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin." Copying is freely permitted, provided no material herein is sold for profit. |
