The Ninth Commandment

(Exodus 20:16) "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour."

The ninth commandment emphasizes the value of our neighbor's good name. We are not to seek to build our own name at the expense of our neighbors. It forbids lying to or about others, giving false testimony or accusations, slander, gossip, or any other form of conversation or action that would seek to deface or destroy their reputation.

(Colossians 3:8-9) "But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;"
