The Seventh Commandment(Exodus 20:14) "Thou shalt not commit adultery." The family is the fundamental building block of society. The marriage vow between a man and woman is a holy covenant that should not be violated by sexual unfaithfulness under any circumstances. This commandment is designed to protect the institution of the family. The institution of marriage and the protection thereof was first commanded by God to Adam and Eve. (Genesis 2:24) "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." (Matthew 19:6) "Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." Jesus addressed the heart of this commandment. (Matthew 5:27-28) "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." (Hebrews 13:4) "Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge." Violation of this commandment is rampant today. There is a spirit of unbridled lust that consumes our land. It is a cancer that chokes the life from a healthy family, church, and nation. Divorce, pornography, child abuse, and many other socially destructive evils are a result of breaking this commandment in our hearts.
