The Sixth Commandment

(Exodus 20:13) "Thou shalt not murder."

The sixth commandment requires little explanation. People are the most valuable of God's creation. (Genesis 9:6) "Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man."

The fact that we are made in the very image of God distinguishes us from all other living creatures. (Matthew 10:31) "Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows."

Human life from the moment of conception to the day of one's death is precious! (Psalms 22:10) "I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly."

Murder stems from a heart filled with hatred towards another. Our Lord God knows every man and womans heart. (Matthew 5:21-22) "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire."

This commandment speaks against thinking about or doing anything injurious to the health and life of our own bodies or of others unjustly. The cold hearts of today have unfortunately led our culture to a society that embraces mass murder in the forms of abortion, euthanasia, and assisted suicides.

How this must pain the heart of our Creator! (Proverbs 8:31) "Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men."
